How Can I Make Money With Image Hosting?

June 20, 2008
Owning an image hosting website can be lucrative. Money is generally made with Adsense, Adbrite or other types of paid advertising. However, the market is incredibly competitive. You have to be savvy in order to survive and thrive. In this post, we will take a look at ways that will make your image hosting website stand out from the crowd.

Market to a Niche: Consider designing your image hosting site so that it targets a specific niche, such as photographers, moms, grandparents or young adults. You can also target individuals in your city or region. It is much easier and cheaper to go after a small segment of the population then it is to try to target to everyone, especially with so much competition.

Have a High Quality, Good Looking Site: Make sure that your site looks professional. It doesn’t have to cost you a fortune, but check out some of the webmaster forums. You will likely find other members that offer website creation at decent prices. If you have some basic web building skills, consider purchasing a template and adding your copy and scripts to it.

Make Sure Your Site is Easy to Use: Don’t make your so site so difficult to navigate that it takes a 4 year college degree to figure it out. The simpler that it is to use, the more often people will come back and tell other people about it.

Monetize It: In order for an image hosting site to be worth your time, you have to monetize it. Consider using Adsense or Adbrite ads. If you can get a good amount of traffic, you may also want to consider selling advertising space to other web masters who may be targeting a similar niche.

Provide Some Extra Value: Give away something extra. Consider your target audience. What are they interested in? Find out and then find a way to give to them free. A simple digital product that they can download would be more then enough. Perhaps tie the gift to a certain number of referrals that they are required to send your way before they get access. This is a way to satisfy the customers that you already have and to also gain new ones absolutely free.

Do You want to Prosper?

June 1, 2008
I recently joined Prosper, and I don’t know why I did not find it sooner.I am Making Money by giving people $50  loans. The best part is I borrowed the $1000 I am making the loans with.

I could have invested my own money but I wanted to see for myself how the program worked. I plan to pay off
the loan way before the 3 years they are giving me to pay it back at $33 a month.

If you have not heard of Prosper here is the rundown

Prosper, America’s largest people-to-people lending marketplace, was created to make consumer lending more financially and socially rewarding for everyone.

The way Prosper works is intuitive to people who have used an online auction. Instead of listing and bidding on items, people list and bid on loans using Prosper’s online auction platform.

People who register as Prosper lenders set the minimum interest rate they are willing to earn and bid in increments of $50 to $25,000 on loan listings they select. In addition to criteria commonly used by institutional lenders, such as credit scores and histories, Prosper lenders can consider borrowers’ personal stories, endorsements from friends, and group affiliations.

Borrowers create loan listings for up to $25,000 and set the maximum rate they are willing to pay a lender. Then the auction begins as Prosper lenders can bid down the interest rate. Once the auction ends, Prosper takes the bids with the lowest rates and combines them into one simple loan to the borrower. Prosper handles all on-going loan administration tasks including loan repayment and collections on behalf of the matched borrower and lenders.
Prosper is an  online community for lending and borrowing money, with over 720,000 members and $146,000,000 in loans funded on Prosper.

Borrowers enjoy fixed monthly payments, no hidden fees and no pre-payment penalties.

Borrowers create a listing and set the interest rate they are willing to pay. Prosper facilitates personal loans, home improvement, auto loans and more.

Lenders place bids as low as $50 toward the loan at the rate they are willing
to receive.

Bids with the lowest rates are combined into one simple loan to the borrower.

Loan proceeds are deposited directly into your bank account.

Free Image Hosting

May 21, 2008

Okay, I did it!

The other day, I asked you guys about image hosting sites, and while I didn’t receive a huge response, that was okay, because I was making a deal to get my hands on a somewhat established free image hosting site.

After setting up hosting (which I got a great deal on an unmetered bandwidth hosting package by the way), and doing all the technical stuff, I then proceeded to change the look of my new site to make it more original. You see, a lot of image hosting sites use the Mihalism Multi Host script, and while it’s a great script, unfortunately, about 90% of the sites that use this script never change the template, so they all look the same.

I strongly believe that in order to have a truly successful site, it has to look at least a little different from the rest, especially if there are tons of sites that already look like yours. It reminds me of when I was running proxies…everyone had the same proxy template, and it was hard to tell one from another!

The original owner is a pretty cool guy. I know of him from the DP forums that I frequent on a regular basis.

One of the main draws for me was the fact that it was a PR3. Not the greatest, but better than a 2 or anything less. Plus, the domain is somewhat aged, and has hopefully had its tour through the sandbox already.

The Alexa rating (which I don’t hold a lot of faith in), is pretty high, but half the fun of taking over a site is to try and get the traffic flowing to it again. I suppose it’s like bringing someone back to life.

Shock advised, clear!!

After obtaining the site, and setting everything up on my end, I proceeded to get a custom logo done, and I’m really happy with it. It really sets off the site, and I think a good logo is a very important aspect of quality branding, so I should have to worry about that as more and more people catch on and start using the site to host their pictures. I still have some more tweaking to do here and there, but I should be done with all that within the next few days.

Using some traffic techniques specifically for free image hosting sites that was recommended to me, I’ve already seen almost 2000 pageviews in the last 18 hours. Not bad for just kicking off! I plan on building the levels up enough to the point where it starts to automate itself. That way I just count the revenue from my ad networks I’m running (currently only AdBrite, but I’ll play around with others – although AdBrite is reported to be the best money maker for image hosting sites).

Most importantly, I hope you guys consider using ImgSlot.Com for all of your image hosting needs. The site runs fast, and you can upload multiple files at one time, which gives you a huge advantage when you’re wanting to upload more than one picture. Registration is optional, but registering (it’s free) gives you access to a few additional features – primarily the fact that you’ll be able to upload larger pics.

I’ll occasionally report the progress of this new baby of mine, and if it does well, I expect I’ll open several more. Thanks and stay tuned!
