Case Study: Sponsoring A Wordpress Theme

April 30, 2008

First let me congratulate some of you out there. Today, it seemed that Google did a huge round of PR updates, and those of you that gained, for what it’s worth, congrats! For those that lost PR, such as a favorite site of mine which you can find at OneMansGoal.Com – I feel for ya. It’s not a huge deal (unless you’re a link seller pimp), so no worries.

Anyway, the main reason for this post is to document a small investment I made yesterday. The opportunity involved sponsoring a new Wordpress Theme, and the way you do that is first, you find a designer who’s selling sponsored links in their new theme that they just designed (you can find these usually on the Digital Point Forums pretty easily), and you obviously agree on a price for a link. I’ve seen them go anywhere from $5 – $100, depending on the designer, the design, and some other factors. (more…)

Top 10 Geeky Mother’s Day Gifts For 2008

April 30, 2008

(no longer active… update soon!)

I couldn’t resist, with the upcoming Mother’s Day holiday right around the corner, to post up some “geeky” gifts that those of us attached to a computer all day could give their moms. I’m not one for flowers, herbal lotions, chocolates, or any of that mainstream boring stuff.

I like to be different…

Which will become apparent after you read the Top 10 Geeky Mother’s Day Gifts For 2008. I hope you enjoy it, as there really are some cool gifts here, and best of all, most of them are affordable (for the nickel shooters among us).

Top 10 Geeky Mother’s Day Gifts For 2008

10 Essential Wordpress Plugins For New Bloggers

April 29, 2008

When starting a Wordpress blog, it’s always important to have an idea in mind of how you’re going to piece it all together. Generally speaking, when I set up a new blog, I pretty much use the same plugins every time, as they seem to be “essential” to the overall operation of the blog.

I have a folder on my desktop called “essential plugins”, and now it’s just part of the process, but I thought I would share the plugins I use with you, just in case you haven’t heard of one of them or used one yet. Most of them have been around for a while, and are pretty popular, not to mention they currently work with Wordpress 2.5 (which is very important). (more…)

Need Inspiration For Your Next Article?

April 28, 2008

Often times, bloggers will run into that inevitable “writing block” that can leave them stumped for hours or even days. Most of us, including me, have experienced this at one point or another, and getting past it can be difficult to say the least.

I wanted to share with you a trick that I use whenever this happens to me, and while it may not be the only answer to this problem, it’s definitely a workable one.

What to do?

Bloggers are, in a way, artists. They need to follow all the steps that an artist follows before creating a masterpiece, but obviously on a smaller level. I’m talking about getting inspired, putting words on paper (or on your screen), and then finally crafting it together. A blogger, no matter what niche he/she is in, always hopes to talk about the next big thing within their niche before anyone else does, and that’s understandable, because being the first to talk about a popular subject can often times land you a decent amount of search engine traffic (depending on how much weight your blog carries in the SE’s).

The best thing I know to do, is to head over to a part (more…)

Win A Wordpress Footed Bistro Mug!

April 28, 2008

I always like to kick things off with a cool contest, and this one is no exception!

Up for grabs on ClubBlogger’s first contest is a super cool, cobalt blue Wordpress coffee mug. This thing is sharp, and would look great on any desk, whether you’re at home or at work. It features a footed base to avoid those pesky spills that fuel the keyboard industry (I should have bought stock in keyboards a long time ago!)

Anyway, to get your hands on one of these super cool mugs, all you have to do is subscribe to our RSS feed, and leave a comment saying you did so!

Deadline to enter is May 4th! Winner will be announced on May 5th in the morning time!

I’ll trust that if you enter, that you’re telling the truth – after all, most people are good in my book :)

Hope to see some entries, and if you have any questions, just let me know!

Where To Find Writers For Your Blog

April 27, 2008

For some bloggers, time is a major issue, and it seems that there is never enough of it in a day to get everything done – including blogging regularly.

One thing to keep in mind – blogs do not have to be updated every day, but, if you notice on most of the the successful blogs (the ones that have thousands of readers and make thousands of dollars), you’ll see that they post new articles anywhere from 1- 5 times a day (or more in some cases). So obviously, one could argue that the more you post (assuming it’s helpful or intriguing content), the more successful your blog will turn out. That’s not to say that only successful blogs do that, because there are well known blogs that only update once or every other day, but they’re not as common.

At some point in time, some time strapped blogger must have thought (more…)

Blogging Opens Doors

April 27, 2008

As we all know, blogging has been popular for quite some time now, and it seems that in the last two years or so, blogging has really inched towards the front of the line when it comes to making extra money online.

But here’s the kicker – unless you run a blog with the power of ProBlogger or DoshDosh, or one comparable in that league, the way I see a blog is more a means to make money, rather than the direct source. Does that make sense?

When you establish yourself as a blogger, gain a following, and have the traffic flowing, sure, you’ll have people that want to buy ad space, pay you to review their product or service, and similar things, but throughout my blogging career (which has been a dozen or so blogs now), I’ve always had the luck and opportunity of being approached by people for other types of joint ventures (or JV’s). Blogging was just the “brochure” that got my name out there, and when people see a style or personality that they like, and they think it could be a win-win situation, getting approached by them to do other things to make money is more common then you would think!
